About the Role

Join The Exploration Company as an Entry-Level HPC Engineer - Cloud Computing, where you will play a crucial role in developing high-performance computing environments for our innovative space missions. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the design and operation of Nyx, our modular and reusable space orbital vehicle. As an HPC Engineer, you will work in a dynamic environment, collaborating with talented engineers to push the boundaries of space exploration.

What You'll Do

• Architect, deploy, and maintain scalable HPC clusters in cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
• Develop infrastructure automation for cluster provisioning and configuration management.
• Collaborate with software and data engineering teams to efficiently deploy HPC workloads.
• Manage resource scheduling, user access, and optimize workloads for high throughput.
• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for performance and reliability.
• Support users in onboarding and troubleshooting computational jobs.
• Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and recommend improvements to cluster architecture.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, physics, or a related field.
• Experience with HPC systems administration or cloud-based compute infrastructure.
• Strong proficiency with public cloud platforms (AWS ParallelCluster, Azure Batch, etc.).
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Singularity) and orchestration (Kubernetes, Slurm).
• Advanced scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar languages.
• Understanding of workload management and performance tuning in compute-intensive environments.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to support diverse engineering teams.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of MPI, GPU acceleration, and numerical methods for scientific workloads.
• Experience with distributed storage systems and parallel file systems (Lustre, EFS, etc.).
