Engineering Manager - Workflows (Remote)
About the Role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead one of Contentful’s highly leveraged platform teams: Workflows. This Engineering Manager role is pivotal in enhancing Contentful’s Orchestration Platform—the workflow and automation engine behind approvals, tasks, triggers, and action execution. As an Engineering Manager, your work will accelerate multiple product teams and improve the foundation that customers rely on every day. This is a high-impact role that offers the opportunity to shape the future of our platform.
What You'll Do
- Lead and support high-performing, globally distributed teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with Product and Design teams to shape and deliver the roadmap for UI Foundations and Workflows, balancing near-term needs with long-term platform health.
- Enable platform adoption across teams through clear interfaces, documentation, migration support, and predictable release practices.
- Evolve the orchestration platform (workflow APIs, execution semantics, integrations/actions, reliability/observability) to support approvals, tasks, triggers, and automation at scale.
- Strengthen operational practices with healthy on-call/support models, incident response, post-incident learning, and measurable reliability improvements.
- Coach and develop engineers across levels, supporting growth, feedback, and sustainable delivery habits.
- Collaborate with AI Enablement and product teams to integrate AI-powered capabilities into workflows and UI foundations.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience managing cross-functional development teams and delivering complex solutions with Product and Design partners.
- Experience with platform or foundational teams where success depends on adoption, stability, documentation, and thoughtful rollout/migration support.
- Technical breadth across modern web platforms and backend distributed systems.
- Familiarity with event-driven distributed systems concepts such as queues, orchestration, retries, idempotency, and reliability.
- Strong quality mindset for platforms: observability, incident readiness, performance, and safe rollout practices.
- Product-minded: able to translate early ideas into workable technical options and tradeoffs.
- Strong collaboration skills across many stakeholders and teams.
- People leadership strength: hiring, coaching, feedback, and creating an inclusive environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience building workflow/automation platforms with strong operability requirements.
- Familiarity with security/compliance considerations for systems that execute actions and integrate with external services.
What We Offer
- Join an ambitious tech company reshaping the way people build digital experiences.
- Full-time employees receive Stock Options for the opportunity to share in the success of our company.
- Generous paid time off, including vacation days, sick days, education days, and volunteer days.
- Use your personal annual education budget to improve your skills and grow in your career.
- An annual wellbeing stipend to care for your physical, financial, or emotional health.
- New hire office equipment stipend for hybrid or distributed employees.
- Enjoy a full range of virtual and in-person events, including workshops and fun team activities.
This Engineering Manager role at Contentful offers a unique opportunity to lead impactful teams while enjoying a supportive remote work environment and competitive salary.
