About the Role

We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer - Microcontrollers to join our innovative team at Lely. In this remote position, you will contribute to the intelligence at the core of our robotic and connected products. Your work will involve developing firmware that directly controls actuators, interprets sensor data, and enables reliable communication between systems.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and test embedded firmware for microcontroller-based systems focusing on real-time performance and reliability.
  • Develop and optimize control logic for motors, actuators, and sensor-driven systems.
  • Integrate wired and wireless communication protocols such as SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
  • Contribute to system architecture discussions and translate functional requirements into robust firmware solutions.
  • Ensure software quality through structured development practices such as code reviews, testing, and documentation.
  • Support the product lifecycle from prototype to validation and release.

Requirements

  • A background in Embedded Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in embedded development (internships or graduation projects count for junior profiles).
  • Solid experience with C and/or C++ in microcontroller environments (e.g., ARM Cortex-M).
  • Familiarity with RTOS-based or bare-metal development.
  • Experience working with common embedded communication protocols (such as SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, BLE).
  • Basic knowledge of debugging tools such as JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, or oscilloscopes.
  • Experience with motor control, BLE stacks, IoT concepts, Nordic microcontrollers, or automated test setups is a plus.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with low-power strategies and OTA updates.
  • Interest in growing into new areas of embedded development.
