Director of Strategic Communications - Remote

About the Role

We are seeking a Director of Strategic Communications to join DuckDuckGo, a remote-first team dedicated to enhancing online privacy. As the Director of Strategic Communications, you will be responsible for shaping our external communications strategy and ensuring that our messaging aligns with our business goals. This is a pivotal role where you will have the opportunity to influence how millions perceive our brand and services.

What You'll Do

• Own and develop DuckDuckGo’s external communications strategy, integrating earned media, social media, owned content, partnerships, and community engagement.
• Identify high-impact opportunities and adapt communication plans to align with business priorities.
• Lead cross-functional coordination with product, engineering, marketing, and corporate leadership on messaging and timing.
• Conceptualize and execute tentpole communications campaigns from ideation to measurement.
• Translate complex technical products into compelling narratives for mainstream audiences.
• Build and mobilize communities of advocates to extend the brand’s reach.
• Define meaningful KPIs and build reporting that demonstrates the impact of communications efforts.
• Continuously evolve processes and playbooks to enhance team efficiency.

Requirements

• 10+ years of communications experience, with at least 5 years in leadership roles at consumer-facing tech companies.
• Expertise in the full communications playbook, including earned media, social media, and community engagement.
• Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and persuasively.
• Deep social and digital fluency, understanding how to engage audiences effectively.
• Experience positioning senior leaders as thought leaders through various media.
• Strong organizational skills with a track record of managing complex projects.
• Fluency in defining KPIs and building impactful reporting.
