Director, Legal Employment and Compliance Counsel - Remote
About the Role
We are seeking a Director, Legal Employment and Compliance Counsel to join our team at Universal Music Group. This role offers a unique opportunity to work remotely while being at the forefront of legal counsel in the music industry. As the Director, you will provide strategic legal advice on employment matters, ensuring compliance and governance across our UK operations.
What You'll Do
- Advise senior leaders and people business partners on complex employment matters, including general advisory, restructures, investigations, and policy issues.
- Manage employment tribunal claims and oversee external counsel as necessary.
- Guide disciplinary, grievance, redundancy, and TUPE processes with clarity and fairness.
- Review and shape employment policies in line with UK legislation and inclusive best practices.
- Monitor regulatory developments and strengthen compliance and governance frameworks.
- Manage day-to-day conflict of interest compliance processes.
- Collaborate with UK and International teams to deliver a seamless employment law service.
Requirements
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales with strong employment law experience.
- Deep knowledge of UK employment law and some experience in international jurisdictions.
- Experience advising people business partners and senior stakeholders on complex matters.
- Strong analytical skills and sound commercial judgment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and influence with credibility.
- Collaborative approach and commitment to inclusive practice.
- Understanding of working internationally across US, ME, and Asia time zones.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in the music industry is not required but is a plus.
- Experience in managing sensitive situations calmly and professionally.
- Proficiency in additional languages.
