Automation /​ Controls Design Engineer - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Automation / Controls Design Engineer remote to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, programming, and implementing electrical control systems and PLC-based automation solutions for automated machinery and industrial equipment.

What You'll Do

• Design and develop electrical control systems and PLC-based automation solutions.
• Create and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and bills of materials using AutoCAD 2D.
• Program, test, and debug PLCs (Allen-Bradley) for new equipment and process improvements.
• Develop and maintain HMI screens using FactoryTalk View.
• Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to integrate control systems with equipment.
• Support installation and commissioning of new control systems at internal sites.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and control system issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
• Ensure designs comply with safety and industry standards (NEC/NFPA codes).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of experience in controls engineering, including PLC design and programming.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D for creating electrical schematics and diagrams for control design.
• Strong knowledge of industrial automation systems, sensors, HMIs, and control panels.
• Experience with control panel layout and wiring design.

Nice to Have

• Experience with HMI design and SCADA systems and industrial cybersecurity.
• Expert in Rockwell Automation software (Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, FactoryTalk View SE/ME).
• Extensive experience with ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PanelView, and VFDs.
• Proficiency in ladder logic programming and working with high voltages.
• Strong understanding of industrial protocols like Ethernet/IP and Profibus.
