Vice President, Backend Software Engineer - Web3 Focus

About the Role

We are looking for a talented Vice President, Backend Software Engineer to join our global engineering team at Galaxy. This is a unique opportunity to work in the rapidly evolving Web3 space, where you will play a key role in shaping the future of digital assets and blockchain technology. As a Vice President, Backend Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing scalable back-end systems that support our diverse business lines, including custody, DeFi, and trading. This role offers a chance to work remotely while collaborating with a team of experts in the field.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable back-end systems to support Galaxy’s diverse business lines.
• Partner with the tech lead to discuss, shape, and finalize high-level system design and technical approaches for medium-to-large initiatives.
• Collaborate with globally distributed cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
• Optimize and improve existing systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Drive impact analysis and detailed design, translating designs into clear engineering tasks for implementation.
• Automate business workflows to increase operational and capital efficiency.
• Remain hands-on by implementing core components and pairing with engineers when needed.
• Own services in production end-to-end, including deployment, monitoring, and ongoing reliability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely manner.

Requirements

• 5-10+ years of experience in software engineering, focusing on back-end development.
• Strong proficiency in Java (Spring Boot, Vert.x) and/or Python (FastAPI).
• Experience with database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, and ORM frameworks.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to balance design work and hands-on delivery.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Interest in Cryptocurrency and building the future.
• Fluent in English.

Nice to Have

• Experience in Traditional Finance or Cryptocurrency supporting trading, middle-office or back-office systems.
• Experience with containerization and container orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with the full lifecycle development of a commercial system, including requirements definition, agile planning, releasing, and production support.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and software development best practices.
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and event-driven design.
• Experience with Kafka or message-based architectures.
