About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer - AI Product to join our innovative AI Innovation Team at Mural. This team is at the forefront of transforming visual collaboration through generative AI, and you will play a crucial role in enhancing how teams work together. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will help bring AI-powered features to life for Mural’s customers, making collaboration more fluid and human-centered.

What You'll Do

  • Build and refine early-stage AI systems and frameworks that enhance user experiences and deliver measurable improvements in performance and relevance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define priorities and long-term strategy for AI innovation at Mural.
  • Translate complex, open-ended problems into structured engineering approaches grounded in data analysis, experimentation, and machine learning principles.
  • Champion technical excellence and mentorship, fostering best practices in AI development.
  • Shape the future of the team through thoughtful hiring and initiatives that attract and develop exceptional AI talent.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering, with at least 2 years developing generative AI products.
  • Proven experience implementing the full lifecycle of early-phase AI development, from ideation to production.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing clear technical documents.
  • Experience in developing deep product and business knowledge to connect modeling tasks with business value.

Nice to Have

  • A relevant advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or Statistics.
  • Demonstrated expertise in AI indexing, retrieval systems, personalization, and/or natural language processing.
  • A growth mindset and experience in mentoring senior engineers.
