About the Role

GitLab is seeking a Staff Product Designer to join our team remotely and lead design for complex security experiences. As a Staff Product Designer - Security & Compliance, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our AI-powered DevSecOps platform, which is utilized by over 100,000 organizations worldwide. This position requires a unique blend of deep technical knowledge in security concepts and user-centered design, allowing you to translate intricate workflows into clear, usable experiences for developers and security teams.

What You'll Do

  • Lead design for security and compliance experiences, driving end-to-end design for complex security workflows across the software supply chain.
  • Define both tactical solutions for immediate user problems and strategic patterns that connect to the longer-term platform vision.
  • Translate technical complexity into clarity by partnering with subject matter experts to create accessible, value-focused experiences for various user types.
  • Coordinate across multiple security product groups to align on cohesive experiences, working closely with Product Managers and Engineering Managers.
  • Demonstrate excellence in interaction design, visual design, and systems thinking while raising the quality bar through thoughtful feedback in design reviews.
  • Actively contribute to the Pajamas Design System by identifying reusable patterns and proposing new components.
  • Mentor and support other designers, helping onboard new team members and fostering a collaborative team culture.
  • Conduct usability studies, competitor evaluations, and formative research to ground your work in user needs.

What You'll Bring

  • Demonstrated ability to lead design on complex workflows that require significant cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing end-to-end product design work, from problem framing through shipped solutions.
  • Experience with security, compliance, DevSecOps, or developer-focused B2B SaaS products.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical topics in clear, value-focused ways for different audiences.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present work, articulate rationale, and facilitate alignment.
  • Proficiency with Figma and prototyping tools.
