Senior Software Engineer - Backend (Repayment UX Engineering)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer - Backend to join our Repayments Nexus team at Affirm. This role offers the opportunity to work remotely from Spain and contribute to our mission of reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help build the tools and systems that allow our customers to repay their loans conveniently, ensuring a seamless repayment experience.

What You'll Do

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve complex problems.
• Collaborate closely with product management, design, and analytics teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Identify project, process, technology, or business issues proactively and lead efforts to solve them.
• Create and monitor metrics to support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting and improving code review and design standards.
• Develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, leading by example.
• Participate in an on-call rotation as required for this role.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Proven track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Fluency in backend development and batch processing using technologies like Airflow, Spark, Data Lake, and Snowflake.
• Experience defining a technical plan for delivering significant features or system components with elegant and extensible designs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to support effective collaboration with our global engineering team.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Docker and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with Java and other programming languages.
• Understanding of financial services and repayment systems.
