About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Researcher to lead the "Collection and Enhancement of Data on Jaguars, Their Habitat and Prey in the Guiana Shield" project. This Senior Researcher remote position will be based in one of several countries where Panthera operates, including Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, France, or the United Kingdom. You will play a crucial role in consolidating and enhancing jaguar-related data across the Guiana Shield, ensuring accessibility and informing biodiversity policies.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the establishment of harmonized databases on jaguars, their prey, habitat, and human-wildlife conflicts.
  • Organize a regional multi-stakeholder workshop to define database structure and data-sharing agreements.
  • Coordinate with institutions to ensure sustainability and avoid duplication of efforts.
  • Design and harmonize field data collection protocols, including camera traps and DNA sampling.
  • Conduct national assessments of training needs in database management and organize workshops.
  • Mentor young researchers and build sustainable local expertise in jaguar conservation.
  • Produce peer-reviewed publications on jaguar status and develop a user-friendly website for data access.
  • Propose a roadmap for interoperability of national databases to enhance regional visibility.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in wildlife ecology, conservation biology, or related fields.
  • 7-10 years of experience in ecological research and biodiversity monitoring.
  • Proven track record in leading scientific publications related to jaguar ecology.
  • Expertise in database design, management, and ecological monitoring protocols.
  • Strong capacity for stakeholder engagement and familiarity with international biodiversity frameworks.

Nice to Have

  • Working proficiency in Portuguese, French, or Dutch.
  • Experience in multi-country conservation projects.
  • Ability to produce knowledge products for policy influence.
