Senior Rail Safety Risk Consultant - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Rail Safety Risk Consultant to join our team at Arup. This remote position offers an exciting opportunity to lead safety assurance across the rail industry, contributing to high-profile infrastructure projects globally. As a Senior Rail Safety Risk Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring safety and reliability in rail systems, making a significant impact on the future of transport.

What You'll Do

• Lead delivery of safety assurance tasks and small projects, managing outputs to meet time, cost, and quality standards.
• Conduct system safety activities including hazard identification, analysis, and risk assessment (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, FMECA, FTA).
• Chair and facilitate safety workshops with clients and technical specialists.
• Coordinate and implement technical safety and risk engineering activities, including safety case development.
• Support clients in adopting new technologies and addressing strategic challenges in the rail sector.
• Work with Independent Safety Assessors to prepare safety evidence and respond to findings.

Requirements

• Chartered Engineer with membership in a relevant professional institution.
• Strong experience in leading safety and risk assessment programs in the rail sector.
• Proven understanding of safety assurance activities for rail systems and relevant UK and European legislation.
• Experience applying safety analysis techniques and developing safety cases.
• Fluency in Danish, Dutch, and/or German is a plus but not essential.

Nice to Have

• Experience working closely with Independent Safety Assessors.
• Knowledge of decarbonization and digitalization in the rail industry.
• Experience in climate resilience and adaptation strategies.
