Senior Linux Systems Engineer - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Linux Systems Engineer to join our infrastructure team supporting Cronon within the IONOS Group. This Senior Linux Systems Engineer remote position focuses on operating and improving Linux-based infrastructure environments used by enterprise customers. You will work closely with the systems engineering team responsible for maintaining and evolving the platform infrastructure. The position is hands-on and operational, involving infrastructure management, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of existing environments. The team works in an international context where English is the main working language.

What You'll Do

• Operate and maintain Linux-based infrastructure environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues in production.
• Support and diagnose database-related issues involving MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL.
• Manage and maintain virtualized environments based on VMware.
• Use configuration management and automation tools, mainly Ansible.
• Handle infrastructure support tickets and operational tasks.
• Contribute to system upgrades, maintenance activities, and lifecycle management of platforms.
• Participate in infrastructure-related projects when required.
• Join daily team stand-ups and collaborate with international colleagues.
• Participate in a shared on-call rotation (approximately one week per month) together with a team of six engineers.

Requirements

• Several years of experience administering Linux systems in production.
• Solid understanding of Linux system administration and troubleshooting.
• Experience working with Ansible or similar configuration management tools.
• Experience managing virtualized environments such as VMware.
• Experience troubleshooting databases such as MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL.
• Comfortable working in English within an international engineering team.

Nice to Have

• Experience in hosting, managed services, or infrastructure environments.
• Experience working with medium-sized infrastructures (tens or hundreds of servers).
• Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading technical initiatives.
• German language skills.
