Senior Bridge Engineer - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to join our innovative team at HDR, where you will have the opportunity to work remotely. In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of bridges that enhance transportation systems and support thriving communities. Your expertise will be essential in shaping the future of mobility, ensuring safety, efficiency, and sustainability in transportation.

What You'll Do

• Prepare bridge designs following Caltrans PS&E process.
• Work on projects involving bridge types such as steel plate girder, prestress concrete, segmental, and cable-stayed designs for highway and railway projects.
• Select standard bridge engineering/design procedures and develop structural details using specialized design software.
• Perform structural load calculations and assist with geometric layout and quantity development.
• Review and check design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by junior engineers and EITs.
• Mentor junior staff and assist the Bridges and Structures Area Lead in managing bridge engineers.
• Build relationships with local clients and deliver high-quality work.
• Perform other duties as needed to support project goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of 10 years of bridge design experience.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered.
• Proven hands-on experience in all aspects of bridge design projects.
• Familiarity with engineering software packages such as SAP2000, CSiBridge, and AutoCAD.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to HDR's employee-owned culture.
• Project management skills are desirable.

Nice to Have

• Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a focus on structures.
• Experience with California High Speed Rail and Caltrans bridge design.
• Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and other engineering software.
• Experience preparing project scope, fee, and schedule.
• Experience managing junior staff.
