Senior Backend Engineer - AI Infrastructure (Remote)

About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join our fast-growing team at Connect-AI. This Senior Backend Engineer remote position offers the chance to work on cutting-edge AI infrastructure that supports real users in production environments. You will be responsible for building and owning the backend foundations behind AI-powered systems, ensuring they scale reliably and efficiently.

What You'll Do

• Design and build production-grade APIs used by external developers.
• Own backend services that support AI agents and large data workflows.
• Handle async processing, queues, caching, and traffic spikes.
• Build systems that process complex or heavy data payloads.
• Collaborate closely with Product & Design in a small, high-autonomy team.
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions in a fast-moving environment.

Requirements

• Strong experience building and scaling backend systems in production.
• Deep knowledge of Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience with distributed systems, async workflows, and event-driven architecture.
• Familiarity with queues, background jobs, and caching strategies.
• Solid database experience with Postgres, MySQL, Redis, etc.
• Experience working in VC-backed startups or small product teams.
• Comfortable operating with high autonomy and minimal process.
• Strong communication skills in async, remote environments.

Nice to Have

• Experience building AI-powered backend systems (LLMs, RAG, agents).
• Platform/infrastructure experience.
• Experience designing APIs used by other engineers.
• Exposure to self-hosted or enterprise deployment models.
