Remote Policy Review Specialist - Vessel Data Reporting

About the Role

We are seeking a Remote Policy Review Specialist to join Global Fishing Watch, an organization dedicated to enhancing ocean governance through transparency. In this role, you will analyze Brazil's Vessel Data Reporting obligations, ensuring compliance with international standards. This position offers the opportunity to work remotely while contributing to the global fight against Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing.

What You'll Do

• Conduct a comprehensive review of existing legal and regulatory frameworks governing fishing vessel registry data in Brazil.
• Analyze obligations at the national level and commitments to Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs) and the FAO Global Record.
• Collaborate with Brazilian authorities to develop interoperability solutions for vessel data management.
• Provide insights on challenges and opportunities in vessel data sharing policies.
• Prepare detailed reports and recommendations to enhance data collection and sharing practices.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in policy analysis or legal review, preferably in marine conservation or fisheries management.
• Strong understanding of international fisheries law and regulations.
• Excellent analytical and research skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Proficiency in English; knowledge of Portuguese is a plus.

Nice to Have

• Experience working with international organizations or NGOs.
• Familiarity with data management tools and practices.
• Knowledge of marine conservation issues and IUU fishing.
