About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Planner to join our Strategic Growth team at Central Bedfordshire Council. This remote Principal Planner position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant planning initiatives in one of the largest Unitary Authorities in the UK. As a key player in our planning policy, you will help shape the future of Central Bedfordshire, especially during this pivotal time of growth and development.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the delivery of the Council's statutory and non-statutory planning functions.
  • Manage the Site Assessment process following our Call for Sites.
  • Ensure compliance with new Planning Regulations and deliver the Strategic Land Availability Assessment (SLAA).
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including Councillors and developers.
  • Support the development of the new Local Plan from early stages through to examination and adoption.

Requirements

  • A relevant Masters Degree or equivalent qualification in planning.
  • Membership or working towards membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
  • Experience in a forward planning environment within a local authority.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Commitment to evidence-based decision making and best practices in planning.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with strategic land use planning.
  • Knowledge of current planning legislation and policy.
  • Experience in managing complex projects and deadlines.
