About the Role

The Associated Press is seeking a News Director for Latin America & Caribbean (Remote) to lead our coverage from Mexico City. As a News Director, you will ensure that AP maintains its reputation as a trusted source of news while innovating our approach to storytelling.

What You'll Do

  • Direct and manage a diverse team of journalists across various formats including text, photo, video, and audio.
  • Oversee the AP’s Spanish Service, ensuring high-quality reporting that resonates with audiences.
  • Develop strategic initiatives to enhance news gathering operations and ensure coverage of major stories.
  • Collaborate closely with visual journalists to enhance the impact of our coverage.
  • Pursue innovative techniques in news reporting while upholding AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of experience leading a newsroom or beat team in a daily newspaper, broadcast station, or digital news outlet.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
  • Advanced-level professional competency in both written and spoken English and Spanish.
  • Proven leadership skills with a history of guiding journalists across multiple formats.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
