Manager System Engineering - Imaging and Instrument Design (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Manager System Engineering - Imaging and Instrument Design (remote) to lead our System Engineering group at our Bielefeld location. In this role, you will shape the development of our Advanced Imaging Instruments for Spatial Biology. With your extensive experience in microscopy equipment development, you will lead your team both technically and disciplinarily, staying close to the technology through active involvement in daily operations. Your work enables research groups in neurology, immunology, and oncology to analyze biological structures and interactions in extraordinary detail.

What You'll Do

• Lead the development of high-resolution microscopy methods, tools, and devices.
• Ensure precise design of all systems for demanding research scenarios.
• Guarantee complete documentation to facilitate smooth transitions of developments into production.
• Establish clear interfaces between embedded controls, electronics, mechatronics, and optics based on device-specific requirement analyses.
• Continuously develop your team both technically and organizationally, serving as a point of contact for complex technical questions at the system level.
• Contribute significantly to the management team at the site, enhancing both the location and the Imaging business segment.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in Engineering, Physics, or a related field; alternatively, a Master's or PhD in Biology with relevant experience in optoelectronic or microscopy development environments.
• Several years of technical and disciplinary leadership experience with expertise in developing microscopy systems.
• Knowledge in at least two engineering disciplines such as electronics, firmware/software, fluidics, mechanics, construction, optics, optoelectronics, or physical engineering.
• Experience at the interface between imaging systems and biochemistry, biotechnology, or complex fluidics is desirable but not mandatory.
• Strong cross-departmental collaboration skills, excellent moderation abilities, and a hands-on mentality.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in German (C1) and English (B2).

• Experience with cutting-edge technologies in imaging and instrumentation.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead teams effectively.
• Familiarity with regulatory environments in product development.
