Legal Director - Remote

About the Role

We are looking for a talented Legal Director to join TiDB as a key player in our global legal strategy. This is a unique opportunity to work remotely and lead the legal function for a pioneering company recognized for its innovative solutions in the database market. As a Legal Director, you will play a crucial role in supporting TiDB's growth across North America, EMEA, and APAC.

What You'll Do

• Lead negotiations for complex global SaaS and infrastructure deals exceeding $1 million.
• Manage compliance requirements across U.S., EU, and APAC jurisdictions.
• Negotiate agreements with cloud hyperscalers.
• Structure open-core monetization models to enhance revenue.
• Apply your commercial expertise to foster growth in U.S., EMEA, and APAC markets.
• Enhance customer trust and reduce sales contract cycles through effective legal strategies.
• Provide legal insights on competitive landscapes to inform business decisions.
• Collaborate with Product teams to co-design data product terms that align with legal standards.
• Lead distributed legal teams across various time zones, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
• Resolve multi-jurisdictional incidents and risks through strategic legal guidance.

Requirements

• 12+ years of progressive legal experience in a corporate environment.
• Proven track record in negotiating high-value SaaS contracts.
• Deep knowledge of global compliance frameworks and regulations.
• Experience managing distributed legal teams effectively.
• Strong commercial acumen and crisis management expertise.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Active Bar membership in relevant jurisdictions.

• Experience in the tech industry, particularly in SaaS or cloud services.
• Familiarity with open-source licensing and monetization.
