HL7 Integration Specialist - EHR Systems (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced HL7 Integration Specialist - EHR Systems (Remote) to join our dynamic team at Optum. In this role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing healthcare delivery by integrating health data systems. Your expertise will help us connect people with the care and resources they need, ultimately improving health outcomes on a global scale.

What You'll Do

• Develop, maintain, and document internal procedures and standards supporting Epic applications and integrations.
• Act as a player-coach, balancing hands-on technical delivery with team leadership and day-to-day support.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for complex integration, interface, and operational issues.
• Design, build, test, and maintain HL7, FHIR, API, and file-based integrations across Epic EHR, ERP platforms, HIEs, cloud, SaaS vendors, and registries.
• Translate business and user requirements into clear technical designs and integration specifications.
• Lead and support Epic EMR implementations, including interface development, data conversion, upgrades, and post-go-live support.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to integration team members.
• Partner with leadership on resource planning, on-call coverage, workload balancing, and career development pathways.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience with HL7 standards and health data exchange, including HL7 FHIR and HL7 v2.
• Experience with integration/interoperability engines such as InterSystems, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, or similar.
• Familiarity with Epic applications or other Clinical EMR systems.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
• Ability to be self-directed, flexible, and participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.

Nice to Have

• Certifications on interoperability/integration engine products.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, C#, JavaScript, or ASP.NET.
• Experience with SQL and data management programming skills.
