About the Role

We are seeking a Filterlist Engineer to join our remote team at Brave. This role focuses on enhancing online privacy by developing and maintaining adblock rules that protect users from intrusive ads and trackers. As a Filterlist Engineer remote, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a safer web experience for millions of users.

What You'll Do

  • Create and maintain Brave’s adblock rules and implement quick fixes for websites that may break due to adblocking.
  • Reverse-engineer and debug HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to improve compatibility with Brave’s adblocking features.
  • Contribute to open-source adblocking projects like EasyList or uBlock Origin, ensuring the best possible ad and tracker blocking experience for Brave users.
  • Monitor community feedback and address user-submitted reports with effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with the privacy team to develop innovative solutions for web compatibility issues.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in JavaScript with at least 3 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with the adblocking and filter list ecosystem, or a strong willingness to learn.
  • Strong skills in using DevTools for reverse-engineering and debugging.
  • Experience working asynchronously with a distributed team.
  • Proficiency in Git and collaboration on GitHub.
