FDVA Assessment Specialist - Remote Opportunity
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a FDVA Assessment Specialist remote to join our residential Breathing Space Men’s Behaviour Change Program, working to make a positive change in the FDVA sector. This role is crucial in supporting individuals affected by family and domestic violence and abuse.
What You'll Do
- Conduct comprehensive screening, triage, and risk and needs assessments for all incoming referrals to the Communicare Breathing Space (CBS) program.
- Engage proactively with internal and external stakeholders to maintain high standards of accuracy and quality in referral and information management systems.
- Provide educational group work, informal counselling, and individual case management within a secure and supportive therapeutic setting.
- Support victim survivors, including children, to remain in their homes and connected with their support networks.
- Occasionally travel to conduct face-to-face assessments in prisons as required.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Counselling, or Psychology, or significant experience in the Family and Domestic Violence and Abuse (FDVA) sector.
- Demonstrated experience in intake, screening, triage, and comprehensive FDVA risk and needs assessments.
- Strong understanding of FDVA dynamics, including working with men who use violence and the impacts on women and children.
- Ability to manage crisis, emotional distress, and challenging behaviours using trauma-informed and risk-aware practice.
- Unrestricted driver’s licence, satisfactory Police clearance, and a Working With Children Check.

- Experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Willingness to obtain a Department of Justice Clearance if required.

Who Will Succeed Here
Strong competency in risk assessment methodologies, particularly in the context of family and domestic violence, utilizing tools such as the Danger Assessment tool or similar frameworks.
Ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including social service agencies, law enforcement, and community organizations, to facilitate comprehensive support for clients.
Demonstrated experience in crisis management, with the capacity to remain calm and effective under pressure, especially when dealing with sensitive situations involving domestic violence.
