Director of Platform Engineering - Remote Role in Web3

About the Role

We are seeking a Director of Platform Engineering to join Somnia in a fully remote capacity. As a leader in this role, you will oversee the ongoing operations of our high-performance L1 blockchain and core protocols. This position is pivotal as we drive the future of Web3 protocols and decentralized applications.

What You'll Do

• Lead and scale the platform organization, managing a team of ~30 engineers across multiple time zones.
• Establish reliability as a core discipline by defining SLOs and building an SRE function.
• Design and implement internal platforms, including CI/CD tooling and observability systems.
• Partner with the CTO to manage cloud spending and headcount planning effectively.
• Drive a high-performance engineering culture by collaborating with the people team on performance reviews and talent management.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in engineering leadership, with a minimum of 3 years at the director or VP level.
• Proven track record in building and maturing SRE practices and incident response programs.
• Experience with high-performance distributed systems and cloud platforms.
• Strong technical credibility and operational ownership in managing budgets and vendor relationships.
• Ability to lead efficient, high-performance teams through data-informed performance management.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Terraform and IaC practices.
• Background in ad tech, gaming, or fintech.
• Familiarity with AI-driven applications and decentralized protocols.
