Cloud Engineer - Remote Position at Idaho National Laboratory
About the Role
Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Cloud Engineer to join our Infrastructure & Operations team. This Cloud Engineer remote position offers the flexibility of a 9x80 work schedule, allowing you to enjoy every other Friday off. In this role, you will engineer effective solutions that integrate security, speed, and reliability into the design, configuration, and deployment of cloud compute, storage, and services.
What You'll Do
- Apply operational cloud infrastructure and technical support across distributed and hybrid architectures to ensure functionality, security, compliance, and process automation.
- Plan, develop, and implement solutions to complex automation problems and major projects.
- Support project plans and requirements, establishing scope, cost, and schedule estimates for design and development activities.
- Participate in technical reviews for projects at various phases of development, providing recommendations for computer technology solutions.
- Maintain and upgrade services for data protection, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for hosted and on-premise workloads.
- Manage and optimize cloud resources to ensure cost-efficiency, performance, and availability.
- Monitor system performance, reliability, and health, troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (DevSecOps, Cyber, Architects, Network, Data Scientists, AI Engineers) to define cloud strategies and best practices.
- Evaluate and integrate AI/ML services into cloud architectures to enhance automation and operational intelligence.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or related field.
- At least 5 years of direct professional experience for Level 3, or 9 years for Level 4.
- Professional certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert are preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, requiring US Citizenship.
- Proficiency in cloud platforms such as AWS or Microsoft Azure.
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture, including compute, storage, networking, and security components.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with automation and configuration management tools like Ansible and Terraform.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

- Experience in mentoring junior engineers.

- Ability to document activities and present technical papers.

Who Will Succeed Here
