Classical & Modern Art Expert - Remote Position

About the Role

Join Catawiki as a Classical & Modern Art Expert remote. In this role, you will source, evaluate, and curate artworks from the Dutch Golden Age to modern pieces, leveraging your deep art-historical knowledge and market judgment. This position is fully remote, with an immediate start date, and offers the flexibility to work from our Amsterdam office two days a week if you are based there.

What You'll Do

• Source, evaluate, and curate Dutch & Belgian Classical & Modern Art lots across various markets, reviewing a high volume of submissions daily.
• Write detailed expert descriptions, set public estimates, and recommend reserve prices based on current market demand.
• Conduct valuation, condition, and authenticity assessments, making confident appraisal recommendations.
• Collaborate with Account Managers to design and deliver tailored seller growth plans and auctions.
• Build relationships with galleries, dealers, collectors, and museums to secure quality supply.
• Contribute to auction planning and category strategy, ensuring alignment with the broader market.

Requirements

• Strong track record in Dutch & Belgian Classical & Modern Art, including appraisal and pricing experience.
• Proven experience in gallery management or auction houses within European art markets.
• Commercial mindset with the ability to spot opportunities and build long-term seller relationships.
• Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Experience in online marketplaces or the broader art-trade ecosystem.

Nice to Have

• Established professional network across the Netherlands and Belgium.
• Multilingual skills, fluent in Dutch and English, ideally also French.
• Familiarity with market-analytics tools or CRM systems.
