Technical Lead - Data Platform & Storage

About the Role

At Rerun, we’re building the missing data stack for Physical AI. We are looking for a Technical Lead – Data Platform & Storage to join our team remotely. This role is pivotal as you will be responsible for shaping the technical direction of our data platform, which is a high-performance analytical system built on Apache Arrow and written in Rust. As a Technical Lead, you will not only architect but also implement solutions, ensuring that our data infrastructure meets the needs of our customers.

What You'll Do

• Set the technical direction across the data platform, being a credible voice within the engineering organization.
• Design, implement, and operationalize core systems hands-on: writing code, reviewing pull requests, debugging production issues, and making architectural decisions.
• Write proofs of concept (POCs) to validate ideas and provide the team with concrete goals.
• Define the boundaries between the data platform, SDK, and lower layers of the stack.
• Represent Rerun’s approach to data infrastructure externally at conferences, in the community, and with customers.

Requirements

• Deep, hands-on experience building, optimizing, and operating storage and/or database systems in production.
• Polyglot background with a strong ability to work across languages and paradigms, particularly in Rust.
• Familiarity with columnar formats (Arrow, Parquet), query engines, or storage engine design.
• Technical credibility that inspires trust and direction among peers.
• Experience in technical evangelism, representing innovative approaches to data infrastructure.

• Experience partnering with product teams to ensure the platform evolves based on real customer needs.
• A passion for shaping a data platform while it’s still being defined.
• Comfort in debugging production issues as well as designing new storage architectures.
