Summer Intern - Structural Conditions Inspections (Remote)
About the Role
Join the Quality Assurance Division as a Summer Intern in Structural Conditions Inspections, a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the engineering field. This remote internship allows you to assist in the Structural Integrity Group, which performs cyclical Condition Surveys to assess the state of various structures, including bridges, buildings, tunnels, piers, and wharfs. As a Summer Intern, you will contribute to essential projects that ensure the safety and integrity of critical infrastructure. This Summer Intern position lasts approximately 12 weeks, from May 28, 2026, to August 21, 2026, with a full-time commitment of five days per week, totaling 7.25 hours each day. Remote work is permitted for a maximum of one day per week, but in-person collaboration is essential for effective business operations.
What You'll Do
- Assist in reviewing condition survey reports and biennial bridge inspection reports.
- Update the inventory database for condition survey reports and immediate actions.
- Support audits of consultants performing facility condition surveys and biennial inspections of bridges.
- Evaluate and respond to immediate structural deficiencies at all Port Authority facilities.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure the successful completion of projects.
Requirements
- Major in Engineering (Civil, Structural, or related discipline).
- Rising senior or graduate-level student preferred.
- One year of civil/structural engineering internship experience.
- Proficiency in written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Self-motivated and experienced in team environments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
- Ability to climb various types of structures.
Nice to Have
- Experience with structural analysis software.
- Knowledge of safety regulations in construction and engineering.
