Senior Privacy Engineer - Remote

About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Privacy Engineer to join our remote team at DuckDuckGo. As a Senior Privacy Engineer, you will lead complex projects that enhance user privacy while collaborating with a talented team of over 300 professionals. This role offers you the opportunity to take full ownership of your work, from scoping and execution to postmortem analysis, ensuring that our privacy standards are upheld across all product developments.

What You'll Do

• Lead and collaborate on high-impact projects that align with DuckDuckGo's mission to protect online privacy.
• Write pragmatic, performant, and testable code using Go, Node.js, and Python to enhance our privacy technology.
• Design systems that improve our search indexes and AI features without compromising user privacy.
• Build new features on our Tracker Radar crawler to detect emerging privacy threats.
• Implement and maintain privacy features such as Web Tracking and Email Protections.
• Participate in privacy review and audit processes to ensure compliance with established privacy principles.
• Mentor junior engineers, fostering their career growth and contributing to the development of the Privacy Team.

Requirements

• Proven experience in privacy solutions engineering, such as tracker blockers or differential privacy.
• Deep understanding of online privacy threats and existing solutions to mitigate them.
• Proficiency in programming languages including Go, Node.js, and Python.
• Strong cross-functional communication skills to collaborate with legal, product, and marketing teams.
• Ability to lead projects from proposal through post-mortem, effectively wrangling vague problems and proposing innovative solutions.

Nice to Have

• Experience with privacy review and audit processes.
• Familiarity with additional programming languages such as Perl and Rust.
• Previous experience in a remote work environment.
