Senior Mechanical Engineer - Industrial Facilities
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Kiewit Industrial team in Calgary, Canada. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled engineer to work on diverse industrial facility projects across the US and Canada. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing mechanical systems from conceptualization through to construction. You will be responsible for developing detailed mechanical designs, selecting equipment, and collaborating with vendors to ensure project success.
What You'll Do
- Design and oversee mechanical systems for various industrial facilities, including water and wastewater treatment, biogas, and bulk solids material handling.
- Prepare calculations for pressurized and gravity-driven systems, ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards.
- Lead projects and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to meet project budgets and schedules.
- Generate design deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, and vendor shop drawings.
- Support construction teams by providing on-site representation and addressing RFIs.
- Train and mentor junior engineers and support staff on best practices and industry standards.
- Engage with design partners and review work progress to ensure project goals are met.
- Perform early project design work, including conceptual studies and preliminary equipment sizing.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited university.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience, particularly in mechanical design or process engineering.
- Experience with REVIT and hydraulic simulation software such as AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow is preferred.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience in water or wastewater treatment, energy systems, or similar facilities is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required.
Nice to Have
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or in the process of obtaining.
- Experience leading engineering teams and projects.
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in mechanical engineering.
