Senior GNC Engineer - Propulsive Controls (Remote)
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior GNC Engineer - Propulsive Controls to join our dynamic team at Impulse Space. In this role, you will take ownership of all aspects of vehicle guidance and control, contributing significantly to the development and operation of our spacecraft. What You'll Do
- Design, analyze, and tune robust flight control algorithms for spacecraft, including large upper stages and landers.
- Generate stability analyses and control verification data for our suite of propulsive missions.
- Participate in GNC software development, contributing to both flight code and simulation.
- Mentor junior engineers and establish best practices for rocket vehicle control systems.
- Create tools for all flight vehicle GNC systems to enable quick mission realization.
- Utilize Software In The Loop (SITL) and Hardware In The Loop (HITL) environments to evaluate vehicle performance and verify flight software implementations.
- Resolve technical issues with innovative and resourceful solutions.
- Communicate design needs, intent, and capabilities to the broader engineering team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in propulsive vehicle control design and analysis.
- Proficiency in Matlab and C++.
- Experience performing control analysis in time and frequency domains.
- Familiarity with propulsion, vehicle, and GNC design processes from concept through implementation.
- Prior experience in upper stage or lander control, including TVCA, RCS, and slosh modeling.
- Experience in a startup or agile development environment.
