Senior Fullstack Engineer - Identity Platform at Zapier

About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Fullstack Engineer to join our Identity Platform team at Zapier. This Senior Fullstack Engineer remote role focuses on building and maintaining enterprise authentication systems, ensuring reliable and secure experiences for our customers. You'll play a crucial part in shaping the future of our identity infrastructure.

What You'll Do

• Design and maintain authentication and session systems including SAML, SCIM, OAuth/OIDC, and multi-factor authentication.
• Own user session propagation and JWT validation across a multi-service architecture spanning Python, Node.js, and Go.
• Build enterprise authentication controls and governance APIs, ensuring compliance with security standards.
• Develop platform libraries that are consumed by dozens of internal teams, ensuring backward compatibility and clear documentation.
• Monitor and improve the reliability, latency, and efficiency of authentication systems.
• Respond to authentication-related incidents and participate in an on-call rotation.
• Collaborate with Security, Enterprise Response, and product team partners to remove authentication bottlenecks.
• Engage in yearly company retreats that rotate to various cities throughout North America.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building identity systems for enterprise SaaS at scale, specifically with SAML, SCIM, OAuth/OIDC, or JWT.
• Strong understanding of authentication protocols and their implementation in a multi-tenant SaaS environment.
• Experience in developing APIs and libraries that other teams depend on.
• Proficiency in backend development using Python and Node.js, with familiarity in frameworks like Django and Fastify.
• Ability to work through AI agents and direct code reviews effectively.
• Experience with infrastructure tools such as Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent communication skills, with a focus on asynchronous communication and initiative.
• Ability to work closely with customers to understand their needs and improve the platform.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Go programming language.
• Familiarity with security compliance standards such as SOC 2 and GDPR.
• Previous experience in a remote-first work environment.
