Senior Data Engineer - Quant & Alternative Data
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer (Quant & Alternative Data) remote to join our innovative team in Abu Dhabi. This role involves building a centralized data engineering and research platform that supports quantitative research teams across multiple asset classes. As a Senior Data Engineer remote, you will work with large-scale alternative and unstructured data, tackling messy datasets and performance-sensitive pipelines.
What You'll Do
- Design and build data ingestion, validation, and transformation systems from scratch.
- Own datasets end-to-end, from raw ingestion through validation and transformation to research-ready delivery.
- Work with financial and alternative datasets used in quantitative research, including structured and unstructured data.
- Build frameworks and tooling to support experimentation.
- Optimize systems for correctness, robustness, and performance.
- Investigate anomalies, inconsistencies, and data quality issues.
- Collaborate directly with quants, researchers, and data scientists in an iterative, research-driven environment.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with hands-on experience working close to raw data.
- Experience building and operating modern data pipelines with real ownership.
- Familiarity with research-, trading-, or decision-critical systems.
- Curiosity about modern data tooling (e.g., Polars, Julia, Rust).
- Preference for hands-on technical ownership.
Nice to Have
- Background in systematic funds, quantitative asset managers, HFTs, or trading firms.
- Experience in FinTechs or financial data providers.
- Exposure to Big Tech or adjacent industries related to quant data problems.
