About the Role

Join Blockworks as a Senior Backend Engineer and work remotely to design, build, and maintain systems that power our innovative products. As a Senior Backend Engineer at Blockworks, you will play a crucial role in transforming complex data into actionable insights for the crypto industry. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the backend strategies of our research platform and media site, which serves over 1 million monthly active users.

What You’ll Do

• Architect, build, and ship backend systems that can scale to millions of requests per day.
• Design, implement, and optimize APIs that power our research and media products.
• Build pipelines to parse and model blockchain transactions and financial data.
• Own database design, optimization, and reliability using MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Implement caching and performance strategies with Redis or similar tools.
• Lead backend feature development from planning to production release.
• Diagnose and resolve scalability, performance, and reliability issues under real-world load.
• Raise the bar on testing, monitoring, and observability across the stack.
• Collaborate with frontend, product, and data teams to ensure seamless integrations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• At least 5 years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer with a strong focus on backend development and architecture using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Experience building fast, reliable API endpoints capable of handling over 1 million requests per day.
• Proficiency in designing and optimizing relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL, including data modeling and query optimization.
• Familiarity with caching mechanisms like Redis to enhance performance and scalability.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in fast-paced environments.
• Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment tools.
• Attention to detail and pride in writing clean, maintainable, and reusable code.

Nice to Have

• Experience with frameworks like NestJS and database access layers such as TypeORM.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Exposure to ML/AI models.
• Hands-on experience in the crypto space.
