About the Role

Insomniac Games is searching for a Remote Lead VFX Artist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will manage and develop a talented visual effects team, ensuring that our games meet the highest standards of quality and performance. As a Remote Lead VFX Artist, you will demonstrate your mastery of industry standards and tools, while also setting an example for your team.

What You'll Do

  • Balance hands-on VFX asset creation with day-to-day team leadership and management of the VFX team.
  • Partner closely with the Principal VFX Artist to plan, create, and test content creation and pipelines before deploying to the development team.
  • Oversee and support external VFX partners, ensuring they are properly onboarded to style and technical standards and that their deliveries meet quality expectations.
  • Collaborate with Production Management to scope and estimate work, build schedules, assign tasks, and track progress for VFX deliverables.
  • Work closely with Art Directors to develop visual targets, maintain a cohesive visual style, and ensure consistent quality across all aspects of VFX.
  • Review VFX artists’ work to ensure VFX content is performant aesthetically and technically, aligned with Art Direction.
  • Coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure VFX assets are delivered on time and integrated smoothly into the game.
  • Champion and implement new production methods, best practices, and optimizations to improve efficiency and in-game performance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in VFX production, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work as a Remote Lead VFX Artist.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard tools and software for VFX creation.
  • Strong understanding of production schedules, project goals, and technical considerations.
  • Experience managing teams and collaborating with multiple disciplines.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a remote environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with game engines and proprietary tools.
  • Knowledge of the latest trends and technologies in VFX.
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior artists.
