About the Role

Join us as a Program Specialist at Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Mexico, where you will play a crucial role in empowering youth through mentorship. This Program Specialist remote position connects mentorship with community engagement to support youth development, making a significant impact in the lives of children and families.

What You'll Do

  • Interview potential Bigs (mentors) and Littles (mentees) to assess strengths, needs, interests, and match preferences, ensuring tailored matches.
  • Utilize coaching skills and maintain regular engagement with Bigs, Littles, and parents/guardians to support safe, healthy match relationships.
  • Apply child safety and risk management knowledge throughout all job functions, adhering to the national Big Brothers Big Sisters Service Delivery Model.
  • Timely enter complete and accurate information into the case management database, ensuring proper grammar and construction for narrative sections.
  • Assess match relationships for potential concerns, coaching parties and intervening as needed toward successful resolution.
  • Distribute and collect periodic surveys on youth outcomes and mentoring relationship strength.
  • Collaborate with the team to assure fidelity to program standards while using flexibility and creativity to meet match and family needs.
  • Plan and organize activities for matches and attend agency events to support families and program growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum education: High school diploma/GED; bachelor’s degree or two years of higher education in a relevant field preferred.
  • Two years of related work experience (e.g., social work, counseling, child development).
  • Strong communication and confidentiality skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard office equipment.
  • Valid NM driver’s license, insurance, and access to a personal vehicle.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with both youth and adult populations.
  • Familiarity with New Mexico’s cultural and economic landscape.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
