About the Role

We are seeking a talented and ambitious Head of R&D Laboratory to lead our AI research and development initiatives. This Head of R&D Laboratory remote position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of AI-driven industries from our base in Turin, Italy, with flexible hybrid work arrangements available.

What You'll Do

• Design and establish one of the Institute’s core research laboratories focused on cutting-edge AI methodologies.
• Lead a team of AI researchers and engineers to execute advanced research and develop practical software or platforms.
• Define the R&D plan for your lab, setting long-term visions and short- and long-term goals.
• Attract world-class talent and deliver scientific breakthroughs in AI.
• Collaborate with marketing and business development teams to promote AI4I and expand its influence.
• Manage multiple projects, ensuring smooth execution and timely delivery.
• Oversee the creation and maintenance of reusable frameworks, libraries, and APIs aligned with industry needs.
• Monitor AI advancements and identify opportunities for high-impact innovation.

Requirements

• A strong track record in AI research and development with a deep understanding of methods and architectures.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multidisciplinary R&D programs.
• Experience applying AI in sectors such as advanced manufacturing or autonomous systems.
• A PhD in a relevant field is preferred.
• Previous leadership roles in R&D centers or experience as a founder of an innovative startup.
• Proven experience in securing external funding and building strong industrial relationships.

Nice to Have

• Ownership of patents or copyrights in AI or related industrial applications.
• Experience in European R&D programs or public-private consortia.
• Strong communication skills to interact across academic, industrial, and institutional settings.
