General Counsel - Remote Legal Role in Open Source AI

About the Role

We are seeking a General Counsel to join our innovative team at Sentient. As a General Counsel remote position, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the legal landscape of our open-source AI initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a pioneering company that is redefining AI development.

What You'll Do

• Act as the primary legal advisor to the business, focusing on corporate matters and product-related legal questions.
• Negotiate and draft bespoke agreements for Sentient’s products and collaborations.
• Provide legal guidance on product development, compliance, corporate governance, and operational best practices.
• Develop and implement legal contracting processes and workflows to streamline operations.
• Manage relationships with outside counsel, ensuring efficient collaboration on high-profile projects.
• Ensure compliance with legal standards across multiple jurisdictions, working closely with external counsel.
• Implement and oversee policies related to record retention and legal compliance across departments.
• Support commercial agreements, including business development deals, contractor agreements, and advisor fees.

Requirements

• J.D. degree from a top-tier law school and admission to at least one state bar.
• 4-8 years of experience in a reputable law firm or in-house legal department.
• Exceptional negotiation and drafting skills, with a strong understanding of contract terms.
• Proven ability to draft and review contracts while managing compliance across various regions.
• Excellent academic credentials and references.
• Strong organizational and project management skills with keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Background in M&A is a plus; understanding of the open-source AI space is also advantageous.
