Z/OS Engineer - Database Security & Monitoring (Remote)
About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Z/OS Engineer - Database Security & Monitoring to join our team remotely. This role focuses on enhancing database security monitoring in a large, highly regulated enterprise environment, specifically utilizing IBM Guardium for Mainframe. As a Z/OS Engineer, you will ensure secure, reliable, and audit-ready monitoring for DB2 and IMS systems running on z/OS.
What You'll Do
- Install, configure, and support IBM Guardium Database Activity Monitoring (DAM) for z/OS.
- Deploy, administer, and maintain Guardium S-TAPs, Collectors, and Aggregators.
- Monitor and audit database activity for DB2 for z/OS and IMS.
- Troubleshoot Guardium-related connectivity, performance, and data flow issues.
- Support audit, compliance, and regulatory requirements including SOX and PCI.
- Analyze DB2 audit and monitoring data using IFCIDs, traces, and logs.
- Automate monitoring tasks, deployments, and health checks using scripting.
- Work with security and audit teams to address findings and remediate risks.
- Ensure secure communications using TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, and certificate management.
- Provide strong production support, issue resolution, and root-cause analysis.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise z/OS/mainframe environments.
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong z/OS systems programming experience with SMP/E, JES, and USS.
- Hands-on mainframe security experience using RACF, ACF2, or TSS.
- Proven hands-on experience with IBM Guardium for Mainframe.
- Experience deploying and administering Guardium VSI (Collectors and Aggregators).
- Strong knowledge of DB2 for z/OS monitoring and auditing (IFCIDs, traces).
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, SSL/TLS, and certificate-based security.
- Proficiency in scripting using REXX, JCL, ISPF, and USS.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and operational support skills.
- Experience working in highly regulated, mission-critical environments.
Nice To Have
- Experience with IBM zSecure.
- Advanced RACF administration.
- Integration with SIEM tools such as Splunk or QRadar.
- Exposure to IMS, MQ, and mainframe CI/CD practices.
- Experience with SMF, syslog, and enterprise logging solutions.
