Senior Computational Biologist - Remote Position in Oncology
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Computational Biologist to join our innovative team in the Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine department at MD Anderson's Cancer Center. This Senior Computational Biologist remote position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in gynecologic cancers while working from the comfort of your home.
What You'll Do
- Assist in the analysis, design, and development of computational pipelines, algorithms, and software for high-dimensional data analysis.
- Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to derive insights from complex datasets, including RNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics.
- Run workflows for somatic mutation calling and transcriptional profiling on matched tumor/normal samples.
- Develop and maintain bioinformatics tools and infrastructure using Python, R, Docker, and Conda.
- Collaborate with experimental biologists and data scientists to integrate omics data with biological datasets.
- Prepare manuscripts, figures, and reports for presentations and departmental reviews.
- Mentor students and fellows in computational methods and analytical workflows.
- Stay current with emerging tools and trends in computational biology to inform pipeline development.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Two years of experience in scientific software development or analysis.
- Experience with spatial biology datasets (proteomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics) is preferred.
- Proficiency in Python and R for data analysis and workflow development.
- Strong communication skills for presenting complex findings to diverse audiences.
Nice to Have
- Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) systems.
- Familiarity with data stewardship practices and reproducibility.
- Previous experience in a collaborative research environment.
