Research Scientist - Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology (Remote)
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Research Scientist - Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology to join our team at MD Anderson Cancer Center. This Research Scientist remote position focuses on advancing research in gastro-esophageal cancers through collaborative and innovative approaches.
What You'll Do
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and participate in research projects aimed at detecting and eliminating gastro-esophageal cancers.
- Develop and refine research methods; troubleshoot experimental techniques and introduce innovative approaches through literature review.
- Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team, applying expertise in molecular biology, immunology, and cancer biology to advance GI oncology research.
- Perform molecular biology experiments, including subcloning, genetic knockout/overexpression, ELISA, Western blotting, q-PCR, IP, CHiP assay, protein-protein/RNA-protein interactions, and drug screening.
- Handle mouse models for tumor injection, drug treatment, and genetic studies; analyze resulting data.
- Process clinical samples (blood, tissue, ascites) and apply cryopreservation techniques; perform basic histology on formalin-fixed specimens.
- Utilize basic bioinformatics knowledge to interpret data, generate hypotheses, and stay current with emerging technologies.
- Assist in drafting research grants, manuscripts, and reports; ensure accurate data collection and database entry at all research stages.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Natural Sciences or related field required; PhD preferred.
- Four years of experimental or scientific work experience required, or two years with a medical degree.
- No experience required with a PhD.
- Strong organizational skills and a passion for discovery.
- Detail-oriented, capable of troubleshooting, mentoring, and contributing to grant writing.
Nice to Have
- Experience with bioinformatics tools and techniques.
- Familiarity with advanced molecular biology techniques.
- Previous experience in a cancer research setting.
