About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Public Health Fellow to join our team remotely at Austin Health. As a Public Health Fellow, you will play a crucial role in managing cases, contacts, and outbreaks of notifiable conditions within the North Eastern Public Health Unit (NEPHU) catchment area. This position allows you to work autonomously while contributing to the health and wellbeing of approximately 1.81 million residents in the northeast of metropolitan Melbourne.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct risk assessments and provide public health advice in accordance with Victorian Department of Health protocols.
  • Participate in incident management teams to swiftly control the spread of disease.
  • Serve as a key point of escalation for operational teams regarding communicable disease queries.
  • Engage in after-hours on-call roster for communicable disease notifications and public health management advice.
  • Collaborate with Health Protection, Medical, and Epidemiology teams for effective surveillance and public health management.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with hospital clinicians, general practitioners, and external providers.
  • Support projects in communicable disease control aligned with strategic and business plans.
  • Conduct audits and quality assurance activities to identify risks and inform improvement opportunities.

Requirements

  • Experience in communicable disease or outbreak management.
  • Ability to practice evidence-based public health medicine and work autonomously.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a structured approach to managing competing demands.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary public health teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a consultative approach.
  • Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (FAFPHM) or equivalent.
  • Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
