About the Role

We are seeking a talented Systems Engineer - Photonics & Acoustics remote to join our innovative team at a leading defense organization. This is a mid-senior level position based in Chelmsford, Essex, offering a hybrid work model. As a Systems Engineer, you will be pivotal in developing cutting-edge technologies in photonics, acoustics, and multi-domain communications.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to transition early-stage concepts into practical demonstrators.
  • Engage in systems integration and prototyping to support low-TRL technology development.
  • Utilize your expertise in optical communications, fibre optics, lasers, RF/mm-wave, or sensor/imaging systems.
  • Take ownership of projects, providing mentorship and coaching to junior engineers.
  • Apply model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices using tools like SysML and DOORS.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Physics, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in systems integration and prototyping.
  • Familiarity with optical communications and related technologies.
  • Mid-senior level experience with project ownership capabilities.
  • Ability to convert research expertise into practical industrial applications.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with MBSE methodologies and tools.
  • Background in photonics or acoustics is advantageous but not mandatory.
