Crisis Intervener - Mobile Crisis & 988 Suicide Crisis Team (Remote)
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Crisis Intervener - Mobile Crisis & 988 Suicide Crisis Team to join our team remotely. As a Crisis Intervener, you will play a crucial role in providing support to individuals experiencing mental health crises through our 988 Suicide Crisis Helpline. This position is vital in delivering urgent, live, and trauma-informed support via phone and text 24/7.
What You'll Do
- Deliver crisis support services to individuals in mental health crises, as well as to community organizations and families.
- Conduct triage of callers and perform clinical assessments of clients' psychiatric and overall health status.
- Provide culturally sensitive and non-judgmental support, education, and problem-solving facilitation.
- Refer clients to appropriate services and resources as necessary.
- Engage in crisis prevention, intervention, and follow-up immediately after the crisis.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide integrated crisis intervention services.
- Participate in program development, evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain effective communication with team members and external agencies, including the IWK, Halifax Regional Police, and EHS.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Nursing, or a related health discipline.
- 1-2 years of experience with a specific knowledge of mental health issues.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies and the ability to implement them effectively.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Competent computer skills for documentation and communication.
- Understanding of current social, health, and community trends impacting service provision.
Nice to Have
- Experience with community resources and government legislation related to mental health services.
- Knowledge of DSM-5 and ability to conduct brief psychiatric assessments.
- Familiarity with the Hospitals Act as it pertains to mental health.
