Business Development Manager - Research and Enterprise (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Business Development Manager - Research and Enterprise (Remote) to join our team at the University of Otago. This role is pivotal in promoting the University’s research activities and enhancing its reputation as a world-leading research institution. As a Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for generating external research income and fostering partnerships with businesses.

What You'll Do

• Promote the University’s research activities and build relationships to generate external research income.
• Negotiate and manage contracts related to research projects.
• Identify and secure strategic opportunities in the sciences and other relevant fields.
• Plan and manage a diverse range of projects and clients simultaneously.
• Communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, ensuring clarity and professionalism.
• Support a culture of enterprise and collaboration within the University.
• Contribute to the growth of research income, which has increased from $88M to over $120M since 2011.

Requirements

• PhD qualification is preferred, with extensive knowledge of university research activities and funding models.
• Strong commercial skills, particularly in negotiation and relationship management.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and clients effectively.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Cultural awareness and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• High-level analytical skills and a self-starter mentality.
• Team player with a passion for university research and enterprise.
