Backend Engineer - Database and Data Infrastructure (Remote)

About the Role

We're hiring a Backend Engineer - Database and Data Infrastructure (Remote) to join our innovative team at Adaptive ML. As a Backend Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in transforming our technology into exceptional products that enable enterprises to leverage generative AI experiences. This position allows you to work remotely while contributing to our cutting-edge Reinforcement Learning Operations (RLOps) platform.

What You'll Do

• Design, iterate, and implement the backend data layer powering our products.
• Own the architecture and operation of high-availability, high-throughput PostgreSQL systems.
• Build and maintain ClickHouse pipelines for analytics and large-scale event data at production scale.
• Develop high-quality Rust software, focusing on performance and robustness.
• Define systematic processes for data modeling, schema evolution, and reliability across our stack.
• Contribute to our product roadmap, aligning the needs of our Commercial Team with the latest advancements from our Technical Team.
• Report clearly on your work to a distributed collaborative team, with a bias for asynchronous written communication.

Requirements

• Significant experience in backend or infrastructure software development.
• Deep, hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL at scale, including replication, failover, and query optimization.
• Production experience with ClickHouse, focusing on ingestion pipelines and performance tuning.
• Strong software engineering skills, emphasizing robustness and performance.
• A track record of shipping ambitious technical products under tight deadlines.
• A deep concern for user experience and how data infrastructure choices impact product quality.
• Comfortable leveraging AI-assisted programming tools as part of your workflow.

Nice to Have

• Experience with observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
