Map /​ Cartography Artist (2D) - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Map / Cartography Artist (2D) to join our team remotely. As a Map / Cartography Artist, you will create immersive and visually stunning game maps for a fantasy project. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a unique project that combines creativity and technical skills in a remote setting.

What You'll Do

• Create world maps and locations for a fantasy game project.
• Develop the visual language of the map, including terrain, nature, cities, and symbols.
• Design heraldry, including coats of arms, faction symbols, decorative frames, and elements.
• Work with typography to label regions, cities, rivers, and create legends and annotations on the map.
• Prepare final maps for use in the game, ensuring they meet the feedback from the art director and UI team.
• Maintain a relevant portfolio showcasing maps for games, books, or tabletop RPGs.
• Demonstrate proficiency in Photoshop or similar editing software.
• Exhibit a strong understanding of composition and cartography principles, including readability, landscape logic, and attention to detail.

Requirements

• Experience in creating maps for games or related projects.
• Proficiency in Photoshop or similar graphic design tools.
• Understanding of cartography principles and landscape logic.
• Attention to detail and a strong sense of composition.
• Relevant portfolio showcasing your work.

Nice to Have

• Experience working on CRPGs, tabletop RPGs, or fantasy books and encyclopedias.
• Familiarity with fantasy lore (D&D, Pathfinder, Middle-Earth, etc.).
• Skills in stylizing maps to resemble ancient maps, parchment, or engravings.
• Artistic or relevant educational background, along with a passion for games and fantasy settings.
